Our Story · Built for the Veld

Every bakkie deserves its armour.

A bakkie in South Africa is never just transport. It carries the tools, the stock, the camping kit and the family. What sits on the back should be as tough as the bakkie underneath it.

Part 1 · Why Veld Armour

Built for how South Africans use a bakkie.

The country

Gravel, dust, sun and distance.

Corrugated farm roads, Karoo heat, Highveld storms. Our roads and our weather punish anything bolted to a load bin. A canopy here has to take a beating for years, not seasons.

The gap

Bakkie owners were being short-changed.

Shells that crack, doors that leak, locks that give up, prices you only hear after three phone calls and delivery dates that keep moving. We saw it too often.

The answer

Steel, a clear price and an open workshop.

Veld Armour was founded in 2026 to do it properly: a welded steel canopy, the price on the website, and a workshop in Florida, Roodepoort where you can come and see your canopy being built.

Part 2 · How it is built

The Pantser: flat steel to fitted.

The Pantser is our steel canopy. Every one is built to order in seven steps, all in Gauteng.

01Design

Drawn for your bakkie

Each canopy is cut from a design for your exact make, model and cab. Send two photos and we confirm fitment the same day.

02Laser

Cut from 304 steel

Panels are CNC laser cut from 1.5mm 304 stainless steel, so every edge, door opening and hinge point lands exactly where it should.

03Press brake

Bent into shape

The folds give the body its stiffness. It holds its shape on corrugated roads and under a loaded roof rack.

04Workshop

Welded by hand

Hand-welded in Florida, Roodepoort by welders with more than seven years on canopies. Every weld is cleaned and checked.

05Sealing

Sealed all round

Rubber seals on every opening keep dust and rain out of the load bin. High-security locks, keyed alike, go on every door.

06Powder coat

Matte coated

Powder coated and baked in Matte Black, White or Grey. Pick a different colour for the body, the doors and the roof rack if you like.
