Security · Why a canopy
Your load bin is not a shop window
Tools at the robot. Stock outside the pub. Groceries in the mall parking. If it's on the back of an open bakkie, everyone can see it and anyone can take it. A locked steel canopy changes that.
What he's up against
Steel, locks and nothing to see
This is the canopy, in 3D. Turn it around, open the doors and look for the easy way in.
- Welded steel body1.5mm 304 stainless steel, laser-cut and hand-welded. No plastic or fibreglass to crack, no canvas to cut.
- Solid side doorsThe standard canopy has steel side doors, no glass. Nobody can see what you're carrying.
- Six locks, one keyHigh-security locks on every door, all keyed alike.
- Steel mesh optionMesh behind the glass, so a broken window still isn't a way in.

Same robot, four bakkies
Which one gets picked?
A thief wants quick and quiet. Here is what each setup gives him.
Open bin
Everything on show. One hand over the side and it's gone before the light turns green.
Cattle rails
Rails keep a load from sliding off. They don't keep a person out. Reach through or climb over.
Canvas or tonneau
Hides the load, which helps. But a knife opens it without a sound, or the straps get loosened.
Steel canopy
Nothing to see. Nothing to grab. Welded steel and locked doors mean he moves on to an easier bakkie.

Sound familiar?
You already know these
Every bakkie owner in South Africa has lived at least one of them, or knows someone who has.
At the robot
TodayYou watch the mirror the whole time. Grinder, drill and toolbox are sitting right there on the back.
With a canopyTools are behind locked steel. You watch the road.
A drink with mates
TodayStock is on the back, so you pick the table by the window and check the car park every ten minutes.
With a canopyLock it, walk in, sit where you like.
Laptop in the cab
TodayThe bag goes behind the seat. A cab window breaks in a second and the bag is gone.
With a canopyThe bag goes in the back, out of sight. An empty cab isn't worth a window.
Monthly shop
TodayGroceries get squeezed onto the back seat, because the bin is open to the next parking lot.
With a canopyShopping goes in the back. Do the second stop without unloading.
Goods in transit
TodayCustomer deliveries ride under a net or a tarp. Every stop is a risk you carry yourself.
With a canopyThe load stays locked from collection to drop-off.
Parked overnight
TodayYou unpack the bakkie every evening and pack it again at 5am.
With a canopyLeave it loaded and locked. Start the day ready.
More room, all of it locked
Load to the roof, not the rail
On an open bakkie you can only trust what sits below the rail and under your eye. A canopy turns the whole space into locked, dry storage, roughly double what you'd dare carry today.
- Groceries and school bags ride in the back, so the cab stays for people.
- Tools and stock stay on the bakkie between jobs.
- Rubber seals on every opening keep dust and rain off the load.
- The roof rack takes ladders and long lengths, so the bin stays free.
Peace of mind
Lock it. Leave it.
One set of tools or one load of stock costs more than you'd like to replace. A canopy is paid for once and works every day you park.

Straight talk: no canopy makes a bakkie theft-proof. What steel and locks do is take away the quick, quiet grab, and that is how most of it happens. Keep valuables out of sight and lock every door, every time.
